Coat drive runs through November 30

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office's 31st Annual "Coats for the Cold" Coat Drive will run through Friday, November 30, with drop-off locations in Rochester, Rochester Hills and other locations throughout the county.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard said he is encouraging people in the community to check their closets for clean, gently-used coats they may donate to those in need. The coat drive is being done in conjunction with the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center, allowing donors to take $10 off the cost of a a dog or cat adoption for each coat they donate (up to $50).

"Coats for the Cold is a good way to help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter," Bouchard said. "With the needs of the community being so great, we are asking folks to give generously this year. We want to fill up every box with coats and get them to those who need them. Also, we are excited to help find a family for the many dogs and cats that are looking for loving homes through the partnership with the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center."

Each drop-off site has coupons available for coat donors interested in adopting a pet. There are 68 drop-off locations throughout the county, including: Colony Cleaners, 1020 N. Main St., Rochester; Real Estate One, 1002 N. Main St., Rochester; City of Rochester Hills (front lobby), 1000 Rochester Hills Drive, Rochester Hills; Oakland County Sheriff's Office Substation; 750 Barclay Circle, Rochester Hills; Bordine Nursery, Rochester Hills; 1835 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills; Genisys Credit Union, 55 W. Avon Rd., and 2881 Crooks Rd., Rochester Hills.
