Bloomfield Hills school board honors students

Two Bloomfield Hills students were recognized on Monday, November 4, by the Bloomfield Hills Public Schools Board of Education for being appointed as the board's student interns. The students, Alexandria Finkelstein and Kiersten McCollum, were selected as interns following an application process. The students will develop ways to gather student feedback and submit student concerns to the board. "This is an exciting collaboration we are launching and we feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the community that values student voice, volunteerism and encourages so many outstanding intern candidates," said Paul Kolin, board president. "We have no doubt that our students will be well served by the two interns we have selected." McCollum was a representative for the state of Michigan at the Washington National Journalism and Media Conference in July; a first place state champion in forensics public speaking and debate; co-president of the Black Student Alliance; and is a first degree black belt. Finkelstein is a forensics novice state champion, earning seven first place titles, ranking fourth in the state and is the team's forensics captain; she has been a Friendship Circle volunteer for seven years; she initiated the startup of Bring Your Own Dog annual charity event, which has raised more than $5,000 and helped five dogs become adopted; and has participated in student leadership as class president for two years.
