An iconic bridal boutique in Birmingham is celebrating a milestone. Roma Sposa Bridal Atelier, located at 708 N. Old Woodward Avenue, was founded three decades ago by Anna Castaldi. Inspired by her upbringing in Rome, Castaldi brought a distinctive European sensibility and refined fashion expertise to the metro Detroit area. She quickly became known for her passion and her unique ability to reveal each bride’s inner radiance and personality through the perfect gown. Roma Sposa offers an exceptional selection of wedding dresses sourced from around the world. The boutique also showcases its own custom collection, “Europa Couture,” designed for brides seeking a truly personalized experience. To complete the look, Roma Sposa carries a curated assortment of accessories and headpieces by Maria Elena, along with elegant eveningwear for special occasions. Castaldi moved to the Metro Detroit area in 1994 where some of her relatives lived and was immediately drawn to Birmingham for its vibrant retail scene and European charm. Reflecting on her 30 years in Birmingham, she recalls being something of a pioneer. When she purchased the building in the mid-1990s, she envisioned living above her boutique — a concept common in Europe but virtually unheard of locally at the time. Over the years, Castaldi has successfully navigated economic shifts, both domestic and global, as well as the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, she takes particular pride in serving a second generation of brides — daughters of the very clients she once dressed. “A wedding gown is a dream come true for a bride, said Castaldi. “We work with premium designers, premium quality and premium service. What we believe in the most is offering a premium experience for the bride. Regardless of if she buys or not, we want to educate the bride on all the elements — then she can make the right the choice.”
