Calico, the decorative fabric and custom design services retailer, will be moving its Bloomfield Hills store, currently located at 1933 S. Telegraph Road, to a new building at 2510 S. Telegraph Road. A grand opening on Saturday, January 17, will celebrate this streamlined Calico as one of the company’s new design studio shops. “This is quite a change from the Calico Corners shops that have been located in the area since 1949 when a store opened in Pontiac,” said store manager Dawn Kotas. The Bloomfield Hills store joins another Calico shop in Novi, plus 50 other locations across the country. (“Corners” was dropped as part of the name 14 years ago.) Customers will enjoy a full-service experience from inspiration to design, combining efficient technology with a friendly touch. The overall feeling of the Bloomfield Hills store is light and bright with hardwood maple-finish floors. The white wood wall racks and freestanding wood fixtures display fabrics by collection and color scheme. For inspiration, new fabrics from Lillian August join colorful collections from Echo Design, Candice Olson, Vern Yip and more. Custom upholstered furniture is presented in room settings, with wallpapered walls and coordinated draperies to showcase Calico’s custom craftsmanship. Customers can visualize fabric choices on furniture frames through a proprietary C360 virtual app on iPads. The shop includes a design area with counter-height tables, bar stools and outlets for tablets and phones, creating a comfortable workspace for consultation and collaboration with experienced staff designers.
