Back in July 2025, Meghan Shaw, founder of Detroit’s popular vegan eatery Street Beet, announced plans to expand to Birmingham with a walk-up location at 233 N. Old Woodward Avenue. The concept called for a quick-service operation tucked behind a new bodega-style market, with alley access and a focus on lunch, snacks, and late-night bites. In the months that followed, “Street Beet Coming Soon” signage appeared in the storefront windows. Recently, however, those storefront signs were replaced with branding for an entirely new concept: LAQR Lip Lab. The company is described online as a bespoke cosmetics brand offering beauty and personal care products. LAQR Lip Lab signage states a planned summer opening. Despite the changes in signage, Street Beet has indicated on social media that it still intends to open an operation in the rear portion of the space. Street Beet has their own sign posted in the back entrance of the building and outdoor seating is in place along the Willits Alley.
