Schwartz & Co. 50 years

Schwartz & Co. is marking its 50th anniversary as the Bloomfield Hills-based financial advisory firm continues to expand its services and national client base. Founded in 1976 by Gregory Schwartz Sr., the firm began by providing investment research and wealth management services to clients in metro Detroit. Over the past five decades, it has expanded into institutional services and investment banking, while extending its reach to clients across all 50 states. The firm also maintains a second office in Naples, Florida. Schwartz & Co. remains headquartered in the farmhouse at the corner of Maple and Lahser roads in Bloomfield Hills, where the business was originally established. Five of Schwartz Sr.’s sons—Gregory Jr., Walter, Joseph, Edward and Peter eventually joined the firm after gaining experience with financial and investment firms in New York and California. Today, the firm has 44 employees, including seven members of the third generation of the Schwartz family. Non-family professionals also hold leadership positions across the organization. Edward Schwartz, who serves as president and CEO, established the firm’s institutional services division in 1993. The group now advises more than 190 retirement plans, foundations and endowments. The firm’s investment banking division, led by Matt Miller, works with public and private companies and private equity clients. To recognize the anniversary, Schwartz & Co. recently held an employee event at Bloomfield Hills Country Club and a separate event at The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón, benefiting the American Association of University Women.
