Google moving from Birmingham to Detroit

Google, with an office in downtown Birmingham, has announced it is looking for much more space and will relocate to downtown Detroit when it finds it.

Google moved to Birmingham, at 114 Willits Street at N. Old Woodward, in 2007, where it currently has about 100 employees in approximately 17,000 square feet. They also have an office in Ann Arbor. Google employees in Birmingham are primarily sales and advertising representatives, with a focus on automotive.

The company has not yet found space in downtown Detroit, but is said to be looking for approximately 35,000 square feet, where it would join other tech firms and start ups.

In a release, Danielle Russell, head of Google Detroit said, “There is so much energy in this city – so much creativity, innovation and hard work – we can’t wait to be part of the day to day action and to grow with downtown Detroit. We’ve been growing with cities all over the country, and there’s something special happening in Detroit.”

Google has more than 70 offices in 50 countries, with their headquarters in Mountainview, California.
