Man caught after trying to steal iPads

November 17, 2017

A man who had tried to steal two iPads from Target in August was finally arrested on Wednesday, November 15.

On August 18, a suspect who was later identified as Terrell Hardy, 22, of Pontiac, attempted to steal two iPads from the Target at 2400 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township, but as he ran toward the exit to leave with them, he briefly struggled with loss prevention personnel and left without the iPads, which were valued at approximately $860. At that time, Target officials said they did not notify Bloomfield Township police of the attempted theft.

The next day, on August 19, Target officials said, Hardy returned to the township Target, and police were notified and spoke to him at the store. They were able to obtain Hardy’s identity but he denied being at the store the day before, and he was released pending a further investigation.

Later, detectives were able to review Target’s store surveillance videos, speak to officers and store personnel, and they confirmed it was the same person. The incident was then presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, and they issued a one count warrant for retail fraud.

On Wednesday, November 15, Bloomfield Township detectives arrested Hardy in Pontiac. He was arraigned at 48th District Court, and assigned a $5,000 or 10 percent cash/surety bond.

Hardy was unable to post bond and is lodged at the Oakland County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, at 8:45 a.m in front of Judge Diane D’Agostini.
