Child drowns at grandparents’ home in township

A six-year-old girl was found underwater in an indoor pool in the 1700 block of Morningside Way in Bloomfield Township on Thursday, January 11, and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Bloomfield Township police and paramedics were called to the home at 8:50 p.m., on reports of a drowning. Upon arrival, officers found family members performing CPR on the six-year-old granddaughter of the homeowner. The girl was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, where they were not able to revive her.

Police indicated from initial findings that the girl entered the indoor pool area of the home and was alone when she went into the water. It is unknown at this point how long she was in the pool before she was discovered.

The incident is under investigation by the Bloomfield Township Police Department.
