Man tries to use phony hundred for gas

A man tried to pass off a counterfeit $100 bill at the Shell gas station at Maple and Lahser roads in Bloomfield Township on Saturday, January 20.

Around 11:30 p.m., an attendant at the gas station, located at 3690 W. Maple Road, said the suspect parked at a gas pump and went into the station. He was driving what appeared to be an early model gray Toyota 4Runner with black wheels. The attendant said the man tried to purchase a bottle of water and gas for his vehicle with a fake $100 bill. The clerk recognized the bill as fake and refused the sale. The suspect took the bill back and went back to his vehicle.

The suspect, described as a white male, approximately 25 years-old, 5-feet, 7-inches tall, clean shaven, wearing a black and gray ball cap backwards, white framed sunglasses, black puffy winter coat, black pants and black sneakers with white soles, was last seen heading eastbound on W. Maple Road.

The management of the station believes the same suspect attempted the same thing approximately one week earlier.

Bloomfield Township police are investigating.
