Blackmail scam letter demands payment

A Bloomfield Township resident reported receiving a threatening letter in mid-January that she recognized as a scam, where the writer threatened to expose a purported secret unless paid $3,450.

The resident, who lives in the 1000 block of Circle Court, reported to Bloomfield Township police that she had received a scam letter in mid-January but was just now reporting it. The letter writer threatened to expose a “secret” her husband was hiding unless he paid the writer the money in exchange for secrecy.

The resident said she recognized the letter was a scam and didn't respond to it.
