Aldi grocery coming to Village at Bloomfield

The Village at Bloomfield, located along Telegraph Road north of Square Lake Road, is getting ready to welcome its newest resident, the grocery store Aldi.

The no-frills, discount grocer is planning a 23,000 square foot store that will be a prototype in design and concept, featuring “Whole Foods quality, with the best of everything, but with Trader Joe's pricing,” said Bloomfield Township supervisor Leo Savoie.

Aldi, a low-cost grocery store, has approximately 1,700 stores in 35 states, including 70 in Michigan, with about 30 in metro Detroit.

“We take a simple, cost-effective approach to grocery shopping that saves shoppers on their grocery bills. In fact, smart shoppers have found that switching from national brands to ALDI exclusive brands can save them up to 50 percent on their weekly must-haves. More than 40 million customers each month benefit from the ALDI streamlined approach, bringing shoppers the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices every day,” Aldi stated on their website. Ninety percent of their brands are Aldi exclusives, “manufactured by many of the nation’s leading food producers, and we work closely with suppliers to ensure that ALDI exclusive brands meet or exceed the quality of national name brands.”

REDICO, a national development corporation out of Southfield, bought the foreclosure rights to the Village at Bloomfield, formerly known as Bloomfield Place in 2016. The Village at Bloomfield is an 87-acre mixed use development that will also have a Menard's, a 432-unit three-story apartment complex to be developed by Edward Rose & Sons of Bloomfield Hills, and they recently announced a 83,000 square foot Henry Ford Medical Center offering primary care and women's health care initially, along with a walk-in clinic, pharmacy, OptimEyes and other retail services.

Savoie said Aldi will be located through the new main entrance of Village at Bloomfield, in the northern portion of the new retail building.
