Enjoy corn festival at Farmers Market August 12
Sunday, August 12, the Birmingham Farmers Market hosts its most popular event – the Corn Festival – from 9 a.m – 2 p.m.
Celebrate the harvest of sweet corn with games, special kids crafts provided by Birmingham Youth Assistance, demonstrations and old-fashioned corn shelling. Besides purchasing fresh ears of corn directly from the farmers who grew them, you'll get to enjoy freshly prepared dishes that include roasted corn, kettle popcorn, corn bread, and loads of other homemade recipes. The day’s top seller usually is fresh roasted Michigan sweet corn with plenty of toppings provided by My Garden Produce.
Attendees will see and pet a variety of farm animals, including goats, sheep and chickens, courtesy of Bowers School Traveling Farm. The event will also feature food trucks from Ned's TravelBurger, Franks Etc. and Fire & Rice. Chefs from Toast and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse will be on site preparing special corn dishes with samples for market patrons to enjoy.
“The Corn Festival draws our largest crowd of the season. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to pick up their Michigan sweet corn,” said Ingrid Tighe, executive director of the Birmingham Shopping District (BSD).
The Birmingham Farmers Market is located at 660 North Old Woodward, across from Booth Park. The Birmingham Farmers Market features exclusively Michigan-grown produce and is subject to Michigan growing patterns. It offers a hometown experience that’s fun for all ages, with fresh prepared foods, live music, a children’s craft area and more. Throughout the season more than 60 booths feature a diverse array of locally and regionally grown produce, including vegetables, fruits, flowers and garden plants, spices, eggs, honey, jams, fresh meat, poultry, soaps, dog treats, baked goods, hand-crafted and decorative items.
