Resident discovers vacation mail is stolen

A Bloomfield Township resident who had had his mail held while on vacation discovered all his mail was stolen after the it was delivere, including medication and checks.

On Tuesday, August 14, Bloomfield Township police responded to a larceny complaint from the homeowner living in the 3800 block of Lincoln Drive. He told officers he had been on vacation and requested a hold on his mail with the U.S. Postal Service.

A family friend had been checking on the residence while he was away, noticed that there was mail in the mailbox, and took it home for safekeeping. The friend returned it to the mailbox on the day the homeowner was to arrive home.

Within a few hours, police determined, an unknown person stole all of the mail from the mailbox.

The stolen mail included prescription medication, commission checks and other personal correspondence.

There are no known suspects at this time, Bloomfield Township said, and the case is currently under investigation.
