Woman beaten at station; group gets involved

A woman was hit at the Birmingham Speedway gas station on Friday, August 17, and several other people got involved, police reported.

Birmingham police were dispatched to the Speedway station, 34800 Woodward Avenue, around 10 p.m., on reports of a fight taking place. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a group of people surrounding a woman. Officers were told a man struck a female and then several other people became involved.

Officers approached the man who allegedly struck the female, a 38-year-old man from Pontiac, who was intoxicated and bleeding from his lip and elbow. He told police he was attempting to sell beer in the parking lot when the fight started.

The man was arrested for assault and battery, disorderly person, and having open intoxicants in a public place.
