Grocery cashier steals wallet and uses debit card

After a lengthy investigation, Bloomfield Township police have arrested a cashier at a local grocery store as the suspect who kept a customer's wallet and made several purchases with the person's debit card.

On March 27, Bloomfield Township police responded to a home in the 100 block of Hamilton Road, for an identity theft complaint. The resident report he had lost his wallet, and then noticed several unauthorized purchases from his debit card account.

After months of investigating, township detectives were able to determine Carolyn Camille Ballard, a cashier at a local grocery story, had taken possession of the wallet after another customer had turned it in.

Ballard kept the wallet and made several purchases with the victim's debit card.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office issued a felony warrant for stealing/retaining a financial transaction device and larceny in a building. Ballard was arrested and arraigned in 48th District court and given a $5,000/10 percent cash surety bond.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, October 18, before Judge Marc Barron at 48th District Court.
