Red Wings, local police host event for ailing child
Detroit Red Wings alumni and Birmingham and Bloomfield police officers are joining together to raise money for a youth battling a rare brain-related disorder, with a fundraiser hockey game on Saturday, October 20, at the Detroit Skating Club from 5-8 p.m.
The 2004 Detroit Belle Tire AAA Major Bantam Team fundraiser will benefit Ian Dyer, who suffers from catastrophic epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder. According to city of Birmingham spokesperson Kevin Byrnes, Dyer has undergone five surgeries since 2014, resulting in the removal of almost 70 percent of his right cranial sphere, all in an effort to fight hundreds of daily seizures and reduce his risk of sudden death.
“Our goal is to raise money so Ian can benefit from an elevated level of therapeutic care,” said Birmingham Lieutenant Chris Koch, noting that Ian receives a daily therapy called ABA therapy that focuses on improving specific behaviors, motor dexterity and life skills. “We urge the public to consider supporting this wonderful child while seeing some of your favorite Detroit Red Wings alumni in action.”
The hockey game between local Birmingham and Bloomfield police officers and Red Wing alumni will take place at Detroit Skating Club, 888 Denison Court, Bloomfield Township, this Saturday, October 20, from 5-8 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 for adults and $10 for kids. At the game, tickets will be $20 for adults and $15 for kids, with standing room only tickets $10 at the gate.
