Residents report automated caller phone scam

Bloomfield Township police are warning residents about a potential phone scam in which an automated caller demands money or risks harm to a family member.

Police said two residents on Wednesday, December 5, reported receiving calls from a phone number that was identified as 331.240.1294. The victims, one in the 3800 block of Burning Tree Road and one in the 2900 block of Heather Court, reported the calls to police about 9:30 p.m.

Police said both residents received a call from an automated voice demanding $10,000 or a family member would be killed. A search of phone databases indicated the number is associated with known scams across the region, police said.

Police ask anyone who receives similar calls to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
