Whole Foods employees thwart liquor theft

Theft of several bottles of liquor on Friday, February 22, was stopped when a man attempted to steal the alcohol left the bottles behind after being followed by employees from a Birmingham grocery store in the 2100 block of East Maple, police said.

Birmingham police responded about 11 a.m. to Whole Foods, 2100 East Maple, to the report of an attempted retail fraud that had occurred. Police said the man had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

Employees said the man noticed the man was attempting to steal several bottles of liquor, but dumped his jacket and the bottles into a dumpster after noticing he was being followed.

The incident is under investigation.
