Man loses money, seats in concert scam

An attempt to purchase a pair of concert tickets on Saturday, April 27, through an online ad on Craiglist left a Bloomfield Township man out $230 and without tickets to the show, police said.

The victim, who was met by police in the 4000 block of Telegraph, told officers he purchased two tickets on Craigslist and sent the money via Western Union. After the money was received in Texas, all communication from the seller stopped. The victim said he attempted to contact the seller multiple times and the phone number was no longer in service.

The case is under investigation.

Bloomfield Township police said the ruse is an increasingly popular fraud used on online marketplaces such as Craigslist, Let Go and Facebook Marketplace. For assistance and questions regarding potential purchases, police encourage residents to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
