Township hazardous waste collection Saturday

Bloomfield Township on Saturday, May 4, will host the first of two Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days of the year at the Department of Public Works parking lot on the township campus, 4200 Telegraph Road.

The service is for residents only. Proof of residency will be required for participation. Residents unable to participate in Saturday's collection may take materials to facilities for a charge, including US Ecology, in Detroit, by calling 800.396.3265 or ERG at 734.437.9650.

Saturday's collection allows residents to dispose of various household items not acceptable to landfills or recycling processors. Accepted materials include oil-based paints and stains; paint thinners; herbicides; pesticides; household cleaners; batteries; motor oil; pool chemicals; ammonia; gasoline; antifreeze; transmission fluid; brake fluid; mercury; aerosol cans; fire extinguishers; propane; solvents; wood striper; and CFL light bulbs.

For more information about hazardous item disposal and less harmful alternatives visit the Bloomfield Township website at bloomfieldtwp.org.
