Thieves target numerous cars in township

Police are investigating a series of vehicle break-ins on Thursday, May 30, along Cathedral Drive in Bloomfield Township where at least six vehicles were burglarized, including one that was driven away.

Police responded about 6:30 a.m. to the report of the first theft in the 6000 block of Cathedral Drive. Five additional incidents were reported to police that day, including some in the 6000 and 7000 blocks of Cathedral Drive.

Police said a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox was taken from one of the victims' driveway. That vehicle was left unlocked and the key FOB was left in the vehicle's center console.

All the vehicles targeted were left unlocked, with the exception of one. That vehicle's rear, passenger-side window was smashed out. Items taken from the vehicles ranged from credit cards, gaming computers, clothing items and personal identification information.

Police encourage residents to remove items of value from their vehicles and to lock their vehicles while unattended during overnight hours.
