Catalytic converter cut, stolen from township car
Bloomfield Township police are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter hacked off of a vehicle on Tuesday, May 28, that was parked in the 42000 block of Woodward Avenue.
Police responded to the area about 4 p.m for the complaint of a theft from a vehicle, just south of W. Hickory Grove Road. The victim said their 2005 Honda Element was parked in the area between May 24 and May 27 when an unknown person cut the catalytic converter off and stole it.
Catalytic converters are a component of a vehicle's exhaust system that reduces emissions and toxic gas. The converters contain a small amount of precious metals, including platinum. Thieves often target vehicles with higher ground clearance because they can easily crawl under the vehicle and remove the device in a short time.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
