Woman steals identity, $7,500 from account

Bloomfield Township police are investigating a case of identity theft and fraud in which a woman stole $7,500 on Sunday, May 26, from a bank account belonging to a Bloomfield Township woman.

Police said the victim went to the police station to make a report after she received a notification from her bank that her checking account had been compromised. The victim told police an unknown person withdrew $7,500 from her bank account while visiting a bank branch inside a Kroger store in Highland Park.

At the same time the victim was making the police report in Bloomfield Township, Novi police were dispatched to a fraud complaint in their city. The suspect left the bank prior to the police officers arrival, but left a fraudulent identification with the victim's information.

The case is under investigation. A surveillance photo of the woman was obtained. Police ask anyone with information or who can identify the suspect to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
