Birmingham Thursday nights get more exciting

Thursday evenings are getting way more interesting in downtown Birmingham this summer as the Birmingham Shopping District introduces its new entertainment series, Thursdays in the City, from 5-7 p.m. on Thursdays, from June 20 through August 8.

Thursdays in the City will feature art, music and a variety of different entertainment options designed to bring you into the city – and then shop and dine.

The first Thursday, June 20, will kick off the series with Art in the Alley, presented in conjunction with the Birmingham Public Arts Board, in Willits Alley. Art in the Alley will offer extended hours, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Willits Alley will showcase paintings, photography and other local youth art, along with a face painting station and an arts and crafts table which will be run by members of Seaholm's Art & Soul Club and National Honors Society.

Attendees of this inaugural event will enjoy live musical performances from Katie Goard, The Crunch, Decker and the Boogie Boys, Chelsea Grey, Kate and the Tall Boys, Paco and the Guacs, and many more.

“We’re encouraging downtown Birmingham stores and restaurants to offer an extra incentive on Thursday evenings to complement our new series,” said Ingrid Tighe, executive director of the Birmingham Shopping District. “Plans are in the works for special entertainment that’s fun for all ages.”
