Township police seek men in gym thefts

Bloomfield Township police on Monday, June 10, asked for the public's help in identifying two men believed to be responsible for two unrelated thefts that occurred at L.A. Fitness, 2050 Telegraph Road.

The first theft occurred on the morning of April 20, when an unknown person smashed out the passenger side window of a car in the parking lot and stole the victim's purse while she was exercising in the gym. The victim said her personal identification and credit cards were stolen. She was notified later that day that her credit cards were used to make two unauthorized purchases.

On May 29, police received video footage from a Speedway gas station of a black male using the victim's credit card.

A second case occurred on Monday, June 3, when a man working out at the gym received a notification on his cell phone that his credit card was used at the Best Buy across the street from the gym.

The victim told police he was working out when an unknown person must have entered his locker and took his American Express card. Two additional credit cards were stolen but not used at the time of the theft.

Police were able to get a photo from security cameras of the person believed to be responsible. The man is described as standing six-feet, two-inches tall, with a thin build and a Russian accent.

Police ask anyone with information about either of the cases or the identity of the men to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
