Thieves enter nine unlocked cars in township

Bloomfield Township police are investigating a series of thefts from vehicles that occurred overnight on Thursday, July 11, in the area southeast of Opdyke Road and South Boulevard. Officers responded on July 11 to a home in the 2000 block of Bootmaker Lane for a complaint involving a theft from a vehicle. Police said the victim's purse was found in the street by a neighbor. She said the purse was left in her unlocked car overnight. A second unlocked vehicle was parked in the victim's driveway and rummaged through, but the resident reported nothing was stolen. During the course of the investigation, the Bloomfield Township Police Department received several other calls about thefts from unlocked vehicles in the 500 block of Spinningwheel Drive, and the general neighboring area. All of the complaints involved unlocked vehicles. Police said a total of nine vehicles were targeted by thieves. Investigators said on Monday, July 15, that they were in the process of recovering videos from home surveillance cameras. Police ask anyone with information about the crimes to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
