Firefighters contain blaze at Manresa House

An early morning fire on Wednesday, July 31, at the Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, 1390 Quarton Road, in Bloomfield Hills, was contained to the attic space and extinguished by firefighters from Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and Troy.

Firefighters with the Bloomfield Hills Public Safety Department responded about 5:44 a.m. to the report of a fire alarm at the building, which was unoccupied at the time. First responders were alerted to the smell of smoke and an active sprinkler system.

Fire crews from Bloomfield Township and Troy also arrived on scene and assisted with extinguishing the fire, located in the attic, above the second floor, in the north wing of the Retreat House. Fire officials said the damage was contained to the space above a 20-foot-by-20-foot room undergoing renovations.

There were no injuries.

The fire is believed to have started in the attic above the room being renovated. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be unintentional, authorities said.
