Stoned, drunk driver hits cars, resists arrest

A Port Huron man accused of smashing into several cars and a building on the afternoon of Sunday, August 4, in the area around Eton and Lincoln in Birmingham was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as felony resisting and obstruction charges.

Birmingham police about 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, received several calls to 911 regarding a man driving a Dodge Durango in the area near Eton and Lincoln roads who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses said the vehicle struck the police range building and several vehicles in the area.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle a short time later in a parking lot near Southfield and Cambridge roads. The driver, a 29-year-old Port Huron man, was slumped over with his head resting on the open window sill. Police said there was a burning marijuana cigarette on his lap.

Police said the man wasn't cooperative when they tried to take him into custody, and struck an officer in the arm.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting and obstruction, operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident.
