Catalytic converters stolen from township vehicles

Thieves going after precious metals found inside the catalytic converters connected to automobile exhaust systems damaged and stole parts from two vehicles parked in Bloomfield Township, police said.

The first incident was reported to police about 7 p.m. on Monday, August 5, from a victim in the 2000 block of Mulberry Square. Police said the victim told officers someone stole the catalytic converter from his 2001 Chevrolet pickup. The victim said the theft occurred during the dark, morning  hours of that day.

The second incident was reported to police on Wednesday, August 7, by a victim in the 200 block of E. Square Lake Road. The victim told police his 2011 Honda was parked at his residence and someone cut the catalytic converter off sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The thefts are under investigation.
