Man admits to stealing hundreds in merchandise
A Pontiac resident caught stealing hundreds of dollars of merchandise on Monday, August 5, from three stores along Telegraph was arrested by Bloomfield Township police in connection with retail fraud. Police responded about 7 p.m. to a retail fraud complaint at DICK's Sporting Goods, 2105 Telegraph. The store manager told officers a man left the store with a bag of stolen merchandise. An employee who followed the man out of the store said he saw him enter the TJ Maxx, 2139 Telegraph, located in the same plaza. The same employee said he saw the same man dump the stolen goods into a vehicle parked in front of Costco, 2343 Telegraph. Police said a man matching the description was observed standing next to the vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle and identified the man as a 52-year-old Pontiac resident. During the initial contact, police said the man admitted to stealing the items. A search of the vehicle revealed stolen items from three area stores. The value of the items was estimated at $600. The man was arrested for suspicion of retail fraud. During booking, the man requested medical attention for his diabetes. Bloomfield Township EMS was called and the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment The case is under investigation. An arrest warrant for retail fraud is being sought from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
