Road construction suspended for holiday

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will suspend all road construction projects from 3 p.m. Friday, August 30, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, to accommodate motorists over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

"The road commission wants to ensure that its roads are as free as obstacles as possible during this period because of the increased traffic we typically see on a holiday," said Dennis Kolar, managing director of the RCOC. "That should help to ensure safe and convenient holiday travel for motorists in Oakland County."

The RCOC will also prohibit the hauling of most heavy earth-moving equipment on county roads, which require a permit to travel on county roads, during the holiday. Further, some lane closures will be eliminated for the holiday.

Roads that are currently closed or partially closed for construction will remain closed throughout the holiday.
