Police thwart grocery theft at Papa Joe's

A 37-year-old Pontiac man was arrested on Tuesday, August 27, in connection with an attempted theft of groceries from a retailer in the 34000 block of Woodward in Birmingham.

Police responding to the complaint of a theft in progress arrived to Papa Joe's gourmet grocery store, 34300 Woodward Avenue, to find employees running after a man who they said had just left the store with a basket full of groceries that he didn't pay for before leaving.

The man was stopped by police and arrested on suspicion of retail fraud, third degree.
