Driver killed in collision with dump truck
A Bloomfield Hills man died on Tuesday, September 24, from injuries he received in a two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck at Wabeek Drive and Long Lake Road in Bloomfield Township.
Bloomfield Township police said the man, 76, was driving south about 10:40 a.m. along Wabeek Drive when his 2008 Mercedes Benz collided with a Peterbilt dump truck that was traveling west on Long Lake Road. The crash caused the dump truck to roll onto its side before striking a telephone pole.
Crash investigators said the Bloomfield Hills man failed to yield for the truck.
Police Sgt. Kim Comerford, with the Bloomfield Township Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit, said neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Bloomfield Township firefighters and the Southwest Oakland County Crash Investigations Team also responded to the crash.
Both drivers were taken to an area hospital, where the Bloomfield Hills man died. The driver of the truck, 51, of Ortonville, was treated for injuries and released the same day.
Comerford said the crash is currently under investigation. Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Bloomfield Township Crash Investigations Unit at 248.433.7749.
