Birmingham Fire Open House October 12

The Birmingham Fire Department will hold its annual open house on Saturday, October 12, from 1-4 p.m. at the Adams Fire Station, located at 572 S. Adams Road, with fun and food for everyone. This annual event lets people meet and get to know their firefighters, learn important safety tips, and enjoy a wide assortment of activities, from live vehicle extrication demonstrations, bounce houses, a smoke house, and lots more. The hands-on event will offer a variety of interactive displays and activities. Attendees will have an opportunity to operate a fire hose, try on a fire coat and watch firefighters tackle a kitchen grease fire during portable fire extinguisher demonstrations. Crowds will gather to view live vehicle extrication demonstrations with airbag deployment. Children will enjoy inflatable obstacle courses, a smoke house and face painting. “This event offers a unique opportunity to learn safety tips and meet the firefighters who work hard to keep the community safe,” said Birmingham Fire Chief Paul Wells. “We’re excited to announce we’ll have an important unveiling during the event. We encourage the community to join us and have a great time.” Historic emergency vehicles will be on display, including the city’s first fire truck (a “Fire Pumper”) from 1924. A Birmingham police vehicle and officer will be on site to display equipment and answer questions. A bomb disposal robot from the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, plus HAZMAT apparatus and equipment will also be on display.
