Burglar, caught in act, flees Birmingham home

Birmingham police are investigating a home burglary that was in progress on Friday, October 11, in the 500 block of Golfview when the residents of the home came home to find a man in their house.

Police responding about 2 p.m. to the report of home invasion in progress arrived to talk to the residents, who said they came home to discover the man in their home. The victims said the man dropped a backpack, then ran out of the back door of the house. A search of the backpack revealed the residents' jewelry and two laptop computers inside.

The man was described as a black, male teen, standing about 5-feet, 9-inches tall, wearing a black Trailblazer hat with a flat brim and sticker on the brim, a black or dark blue hoodie, khaki cargo pants and brown shoes.

Police said it appears the man entered the home through a back door that had been left unlocked.

A witness told police they saw the man get out of a silver Ford Explorer that had dropped him off at the home.

The homeowners also discovered a watch and Apple air buds missing.

Birmingham police said the case is under investigation.
