Did false police report get driver out of ticket?

Birmingham police are investigating whether a false police report on Sunday, October 20, about a man with a gun was made in connection to a traffic stop that officers had made just prior to the report. Police said an officer stopped a vehicle about 1 a.m. along Woodward Avenue, just north of Maple Road, near Elm Street. The driver, a 25-year-old Detroit woman, had a suspended license. During the traffic stop, the police department received a 911 call regarding a man with a long gun in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Hotel, on Woodward, just north of the traffic stop. Officers cleared the traffic stop and responded to the hotel. Police said no gunman was located after more than an hour of searching and that it appears the report was false. The case has been turned over to the department's investigative division to determine whether the false report was related to the traffic stop.
