Bloomfield Hills to look at street snow plowing

While there are dozens of private streets in the city of Bloomfield Hills, there are a handful of older areas that have for years received snow removal services on behalf of the city for free. Bloomfield Hills City Manager David Hendrickson said at the city commission meeting on Tuesday, January 14, the free city services equate to about $250 for each street every time it snows. That's about $2,500 this upcoming weekend, as forecasters predict at least four inches of snow, followed by an icy mix this Saturday and Sunday. The overall cost depends on how much snow the city receives. Hendrickson said Bloomfield Hills City Commission now wants him to look into the free services and how to put an end to it. He said he has yet to notify the residents on the streets in question. "We have dozens of private streets, but we have five of them that we plow without receiving any compensation or anything," he said. "It's been a longstanding practice and the city commission has asked me to look into it." The matter is expected to be discussed at the city commission's next meeting on Tuesday, February 11.
