Stoned driver hits officer with vehicle

A man trying to flee the scene from police accelerated his vehicle and hit a Bloomfield Township police vehicle head on, injuring an officer, on Friday, January 24. At approximately 9:20 p.m., Bloomfield Township police responded to the 500 block of Friendly Drive on a report of a suspicious vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the 58-year-old driver, a resident of Pontiac, sped up his vehicle in an attempt to flee the scene, and struck one of the patrol vehicles head on. Police reported the suspect driver was treated at the scene and then transported to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland for further observation. He admitted to being under the influence of narcotics and will be charged once his toxicology report is completed at the Michigan State Police forensic lab. The officer involved in the accident was also treated at the scene and was released.
