Resident finds $700, donates to police fund

A resident walking in his neighborhood in late August of last year discovered a bank envelope containing $700 in cash lying in the street, and turned it over to police, and on Wednesday, March 4, after no luck finding the righful owner, Bloomfield Township police returned the money to the resident who found it – who then added some of his own money and donated it in memory of a township officer killed in the line of duty. On August 29 of 2019, a resident came into the township police station to make a found property report. He told them he was walking in his neighborhood and discovered a bank envelope lying in the street. When he looked in, the envelope contained over $700 cash, and there was no identification, so the resident turned the cash over to the police with the hope that the money could be returned to its rightful owner. After a six-month search, Bloomfield Township police reported that they were unable to locate the owner. On March 4, police returned the money to the resident who discovered the lost envelope. In an unbelievable gesture of giving, the resident donated the $700, along with $300 of his own money, to the Gary Davis Scholarship fund at the Oakland Police Academy. Gary Davis was a Bloomfield Township police officer who was killed in the line of duty on May 13, 2004.
