Resident scammed $2,000 in 'Apple Support'

A Bloomfield Township resident received a call from someone claiming to be from Apple Support on Friday, March 6, who said her computer had been hacked and should pay $2,000 in Target gift cards for an anti-virus program.

Officers responded to the residence in the 1100 block of Banbury Circle, where the victim told an officer she had received a phone call from a male claiming to be from Apple Support. He advised her that her computer had been hacked, and told her she was vulnerable and needed to purchase an anti-virus program. She was instructed to pay for that anti-virus program with gift cards from Target.

The victim informed police she purchased $2,000 in gift cards before she realized she was a victim of a scam.

Bloomfield Township police report the case is under investigation.
