Maple syrup found hidden down man's pants

A shoplifter at the Bloomfield Township Trader Joe's was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, after concealing two bottles of maple syrup in his pants. Bloomfield Township police were called to the store, located at 6536 Telegraph Road, on a retail fraud complaint. The store manager informed officers that a white male, approximately 35 years old, wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans, had put two bottles of maple syrup down his pants and then left the store without paying for them. Police located the suspect and recovered the maple syrup. The suspect later admitted to officers that he had stolen the maple syrup with the intention of returning the bottles to the store to get a cash refund. The man was arrested and transported to the Bloomfield Township police station for processing. He received a citation for misdemeanor retail fraud and given a court date at 48th District Court.
