Resident learns his identity was stolen
A Bloomfield Township resident learned his identity had been stolen when he received paperwork from another state claiming he had filed for unemployment benefits, and he came into the Bloomfield Township police station on Saturday, September 12, to file a report. The victim informed police he had received paperwork from the State of New York Department of Labor, claiming he had filed for unemployment benefits. He told police that he had not filed for those benefits, and that someone had unknowingly used his personal information. Bloomfield Township police encouraged him to review his credit report, place a credit freeze with all three of the credit reporting agencies, and look into subscribing to a credit monitoring service. The case was turned over to the Internal Revenue Service for documentation and possibly follow-up.
