Man puts groceries in his backpack, takes off

Bloomfield Township police were called to the Kroger store at 3600 W. Maple Road at Lahser on Saturday, September 26, after a man fled with a backpack full of stolen merchandise. The store manager reported to police that the suspect – described as a 40-year-old black man, who was six-feet tall and approximately 200 pounds – entered the store with an empty backpack and was seen in the store with a cart full of merchandise. An employee approached the man to ask about unpaid items. The suspect then asked if he was being followed and if they thought he was stealing. When the employee asked to see inside the backpack, the suspect fled the store. He was last seen getting on a bus. Bloomfield Township police are currently investigating.
