$92,000 in cryptocurrency stolen from resident

A Birmingham resident, living on the 400 block of Lakeside Drive, reported on Tuesday, February 14, that he was locked out of the account he used to invest in cryptocurrency, and he later learned he had been scammed out of over $92,000.

After contacting Coinbase, which operates a cryptocurrency exchange platform, he was advised his account had been compromised. The entire balance of $92,645 he had in cryptocurrency had been fraudulently transferred into another account.

According to Birmingham police, the incident is under investigation.
