Active shooter alert false alarm at Groves

A Blue Point active shooter alarm which was activated on Tuesday, October 22, around 4:30 p.m., at Groves High School has been confirmed as a false alarm, school officials said.

Groves Principal Othamian Peterson informed the Groves school community later that day that, “This afternoon around 4:30 p.m., a Blue Point active shooter alarm was activated at Groves High School. We have now confirmed this was a false alarm, and believe it was accidentally triggered by a group of students after school.”

Following the alarm, Birmingham and Beverly Hills police swept the school building and confirmed there was no credible threat. School officials said they would be conducting an internal review to determine how the alarm was triggered and how they can prevent future false alarms.

All after school events and activities continued as scheduled.
