After 32 years, Adventures in Toys to close
By Lisa Brody
After three decades of polka dot wrapping paper, personalized service, and knowledge of playthings from birth to adulthood, Adventures in Toys in downtown Birmingham will be closing its shop for good at the end of August.
Owners Debbie Vail and Doug Lewton announced on Facebook on Wednesday, July 8, their difficult decision to close the store's doors after 32 years.
“This has not been an easy decision but it is the right time. We cannot fully express our deepest gratitude for all the years of your business and support,” they wrote.
The store, located at 250 W. Maple Road, had previously been located across W. Maple Road in a double storefront before moving into its current location. It has prevailed over internet shopping, economic downturns and repeated road construction.
“The relationships we have made with all of you and our vendors will always remain in our hearts,” they wrote in their post.
Shoppers have until the end of August to enjoy the knowledge of toy experts and hand-wrapped gifts before the doors close for good.
