Apparent drowning at Island Lake investigated

Bloomfield Township police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old woman from West Bloomfield who died on Thursday, August 12, during a canoe outing at Island Lake.

Lt. Paul Schwab with the Bloomfield Township Police Department’s Investigation Division said officers responded about 7:51 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, to the report of a missing person. The victim was last seen in a canoe on the lake. Schwab said the canoe returned to shore unoccupied.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Dive Team responded and assisted in the search. Bloomfield Township police used drones to search the area. Schwab said the body of a woman matching the victim’s description was recovered about 10 a.m. on Friday, August 13.

The case is under investigation. Police ask anyone with information to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
