Arrest made for theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods

Johnathan Jones was arrested on Monday, September 9, after stealing over $2,100 in merchandise from the Dick’s Sporting Goods on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township.

The 36-year-old fled the scene upon arrival of Bloomfield Township police – who had been notified of the theft by the store – and was located exiting the shopping plaza.

After officers tried to stop him on Telegraph Road, Jones refused and kept driving. Additional officers then showed up to the area and were able to box in Jones’ vehicle at a red light. They found three bags of stolen merchandise in plain view when Jones – who is from Detroit – was arrested and transported to the Bloomfield Township police department.

A four-count warrant was issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for not only the retail theft, but also for fleeing, a second offense for driving with a suspended license, and the removal of the theft detection on the clothes, which he did with the two side cutters officers found on him when he was stopped.

Jones was arraigned at the 48th District Court and given a $75,000 cash bond. He is set to be back in court on September 23.

Records show that Jones had just been released on parole at the end of August.
