Backpack taken; stranger promises to return it

A Birmingham woman discovered her backpack containing a computer had been stolen from inside her car, parked on the 1000 block of Graefield, after a stranger came to her home to tell her she had the backpack and would return it later.

While reporting the incident to Birmingham police, the woman said she parked her car outside her house the night of Saturday, October 10, leaving it unlocked. She said the next day the stranger, a woman, came to her house to tell her she had the backpack and was going to clean it before returning it.

The police report does not indicate if the stranger ever returned to the woman’s home.

Birmingham police report that there are no suspects at the time, but an investigation is ongoing.
